PLM: Color - What To Do: Can I Change the Name of An Existing Color?
Originally published 12/03/2024. Updated as of 12/10/2024. While working in PLM, you will encounter existing color profiles. On occasion, there may be a question of whether or not the name of the color can be changed. Please follow best practices outlined below to help decide if a color name can be changed in PLM. If the color is not used anywhere in PLM (has not been associated with any items,) AND if the color is not in Exenta, then YES the color can be “renamed.” If the color has been used elsewhere in PLM (on MATERIALS ONLY), AND if the color is not in Exenta, please elevate (to the RM Director) to discuss if this color can be renamed. Most likely, it is ok to change existing color name in PLM. If the color has been used elsewhere in PLM (on Materials, Design or for past season Color Palettes), AND if the color is not in Exenta, please elevate (to the RM & Design Directors) to discuss if this color can be renamed. Most likely, it is suggested to keep existing color name in PLM. If the color exists in PLM & Exenta, please elevate (via opening a ticket with the ERP Team) to discuss if this color can be renamed. Most likely, it is suggested to keep existing color name in both PLM and Exenta. If the color exists in PLM & Exenta and is associated with past production orders (garment or material). It is REQUIRED to keep existing color name in both PLM and Exenta.

PLM: Color - What To Do: Should I DeActivate The Color I Remove From a Color Palette?
While working in PLM, you will sometimes remove a color from a PLM Color Palette. If the color was removed from the color palette(s) because the color profile is a duplicate of an existing/ established color in PLM, deactivate the color profile. If the color was removed from the color palette because the color was dropped, but the color profile itself is still valid and unique, keep the color profile active for future ease of use/ to prevent duplicative data entry/ for clean record keeping and end to end product life cycle history.
